So I have been dealing with this weird issue where my power button does absolutely nothing and the only way I can now power on my PC is by setting my PC to power on every time the power supply returns (flipping the PSU switch every time I want to boot up). I believe I have ruled out the PSU being the problem and everything runs perfectly fine without any other issues cropping up. I really believe it is my mobo, but I'm not 100% sure what is going on. I stumbled upon this old thread that perfectly described my situation, but it had no real solution and I was wondering if anyone could come up with an actual solution for this mystery.

PC Specs
Mobo: Asus ROG Strix Z790-H Gaming
CPU: i5-13600kf
GPU: RTX 4080
PSU: MSI MPG A1000G 3.0 ATX

the rest seems irrelevant

Are you able to power up the system without the front panel power button, by jumping the +ve and -ve pins on the motherboard's front panel connector headers? If you can, then the issue is your case's power button.

Speaking of cases, what is the make and model of your case?

No the jump trick won't work, it's exactly like the scenario in that old thread I posted a link to. The pins on the mobo for the power button are completely unresponsive. The crazy thing is it started happening to mine around the 2 year mark as well and we both are using strix boards, although mine is two generations newer of course. Probably just pure coincidence though.

I built in a Lian Li Lancool 216.

So, when you turn off the computer you have to first turn off and on the PSU and then press the case power button? And if you wait for too long after switching on the PSU, the power button no longer works and you have to redo the PSU thing again?

Could be a short with the case that slowy charges a capacitor on the mobo or something like that. You could try to remove everything from the case (bench testing) and try to power it on by shorting the power pins.

Shorting the power pins on the mobo give no response at all whatsoever. Eventually over time the psu switch trick to have the power button work stopped working and now I have it set up in BIOS to just boot up when I return power by flipping the switch back on. I don't even touch the power button anymore.

I said to try the power pins with everything out of the case. You remove the mobo and the PSU from the case, put them on a table or a desk, connect everything and try to short the pins. If it works, the problem is likely caused by a short between the case and the mobo.

hi this sounds like exact problem im having i posted my problem earlier and have just seen this. i turn on pc and only rgb of ram comes on but then i turn off power at psu and back on after about 10 seconds then it will power on and have no problems at all
