Question PC BSOD after upgrades - - but only on one game ?

I have a PC that I am trying to help a friend diagnose. When he plays Star Citizen it randomly BSODs. He doesn't crash while play anything else - however, while playing Split Fiction it said his GPU VRAM was insufficient and he had to play it with DX11 instead of DX12 and any time he upped the graphics it would immediately crash.

I will update with more info and dmp files tomorrow (May 17) when I get it.

Specs after upgrade:

PSU - RMX RM850X Corsair -80plus Gold
RAM - 16GB x2 DDR5
GPU - Nvidia Asus 4080 Super OC
CPU - Intel i9 14900k
Motherboard - Asus Z790 Pro Wifi 6E LG1700
AIO - NZXT Kraken X53 240mm
OS: Windows 11
SSD: m.2 1TB
HDD: 5400 rpm 1TB

I know Star Citizen isn't what we would call optimized - but my pc doesn't have any troubles at all running it and I am running a 3 year old Ryzen 9 5900x CPU, 4080 Super, 16GBx2 DDR4 RAM with a corsair 120mm AIO.

Thinking the PSU maybe isn't producing enough but the "PSU Calcs" we have used have said his should be sufficient. His CPU does reach some high temps at times but not long...running around 60s and 70s on average. (Star Citizen can see it jump from 63 C to 100 C).


Any ideas would be great!

You've stated that your friend performed an upgrade, if the above is after the upgrade, what were the specs prior to the upgrade? As for the specs, when posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

As for the BSoD's, please pass on the .dmp files for us to look through. On a side note, what other titles has your friend taxed the system with?

GPU VRAM errors was one of the signs of degraded CPU. Depending on how vigilant they were with keeping the BIOS updated this may be the issue. It'd be worth looking into.
